Euclid Tsakalotos, who served as the minister of finance from 2015 to 2019, has announced his candidacy for the leadership of SYRIZA following the resignation of Alexis Tsipras.
During an event held at Impact Hub Athens in the Psyrri neighborhood of downtown Athens on Wednesday, Tsakalotos expressed his belief that SYRIZA should continue to be part of the Left.
Former SYRIZA finance minister set to announce leadership bid
Former SYRIZA Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos is set to announce his bid for the leadership of the party on Friday.
"Euclid Tsakalotos will announce his intent to run in the upcoming leadership contest on Friday, July 14", stated a press release from his office on Wednesday.
Achtsioglou to announce SYRIZA leadership bid
The first contender for the SYRIZA leadership election is expected to throw her hat into the ring on Wednesday, sources have said.
Associates said that Efi Achtsioglou, who served as minister for Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity from 2016 to 2019, would declare her candidacy at noon at the Athens Conservatoire.
