Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov Started with a Victory at US Open

The best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the second round of the US Open in New York. Dimitrov, ranked No. 15 in the men's circuit, defeated the "wild card" representative of the hosts, Sam Rifis, with 6:1, 7: 6 (3), 6:3 in 2:05 hours. The Bulgarian had no problems in the first set, in which he made two breakthroughs.

Victoria Tomova became officially Bulgaria's first tennis racket for women.

22-year-old girl from Sofia, who triumphed with the title of the Allianz Cup tournament in Sofia a week ago, took Tzvetana Pironkova's status as the Bulgarian top tennis player in the world rankings. Tomova climbed with nine places in the WTA ranking and today is №149 with a total of 374 points.

Successful Start for Bulgarian Tennis Players at Wimbledon

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov scored a 7:6 (4), 6:2, 6:2 victory versus Diego Schwartzman, Argentine, in the first round of Wimbledon, reported BNR.

In  the second Dimitrov will face Cyprian vet Macros Baghdatis.

On the other side, Bulgarian tennis girl Tsvetana Pironkova won 6:1, 6:4 in the first round of Wimbledon, playing versus Italian Sara Errani.

Tsvetana Pironkova Wins 1st Round Match of French Open

Bulgaria's top tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova won by 6-0; 6-4 in a match from the first round of the French Open vs Mona Barthel, Germany, reported BNR.

The Bulgarian player needed to win the match to keep her place in the top 100.

After reaching the quarter finals in Paris last year, Pironkova is now 77th seed.

Bulgaria's Pironkova Proceeds to Roland Garros Quarter-Finals

Tsvetana Pironkova on Tuesday became the first Bulgarian female tennis player to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros French Open since Sesil Karantancheva in 2005.

Second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland lost  2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Pironkova ranked 100 spots below her.

When the match was originally suspended on Sunday evening due to rain, Radwanska was leading 6-2, 3-0.
