Istanbul's Eurasia Tunnel opens for test drive

An underwater tunnel that will considerably shorten the duration of travel for vehicles from Istanbul's Asian side to the European one will be tested on Oct. 8, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expected to take a test drive in the tunnel with an official car, daily Sabah reported Oct. 7.

Asphalt work for the tunnel was completed before the first passage. 

Traffic diversions at Sterna tunnel due to maintenance

There will be traffic diversions in force at the Sterna tunnel on the Corinth-Tripoli highway Monday through Friday due to maintenance works, authorities announced.

Vehicles heading toward Tripoli will only be able to use a single lane inside the tunnel, while traffic heading in the direction of Corinth will be narrowed to one lane outside the tunnel.

Construction works at Thessaloniki metro resumes

Construction works at the tunnels of Thessaloniki’s unfinished metro resumed on March 28 after four years of inaction due to legal and financial problems, the Infrastructure ministry announced.

Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis inaugurated the operation of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named “Hercules” at the main section of the tunnels.

16 companies take specifications for planned three-story tunnel project over Bosphorus

A total of 16 companies have taken specification documents for a Dec. 23 tender to build a three-story tunnel project in Istanbul that is expected to ease the traffic burden, according to officials.

In line with the project, the winners will undertake deep drilling activities both under land and at sea in the Bosphorus over the next year. 

Ancient underground city in Cappadocia will 'rewrite history'

An underground city found in Turkey's touristic Cappadocia will "rewrite the history of the city," according to the mayor in the Central Anatolian Nev?ehir province, adding they had discovered people had permanently lived in the underground city, unlike other cities which were mostly carved into rocks for temporary protection.

Documentary on old tunnel to be filmed

Investigations on a Roman-era tunnel, which was discovered in the garden of a house in the Aegean province of ?zmir's Kadifekale district, have been completed. The tunnel, which is thought to have been built as a water conveyance system, will be the subject of a documentary film. Promotional booklets will also be made for the tunnel. 

Probe Launched into Pile-Up on Bulgaria's Hemus Motorway

Prosecutors have started an investigation into the deadly pile-up that left 3 people dead and 14 injured (10 seriously) in a tunnel o the Hemus Motorway in Bulgaria.

The tunnel is now open after having been sealed off to traffic from Thursday afternoon to about 02:00 local time (EEST) on Friday.
