Turkey cannot handle a new wave of migrants from northern Syria. This was stated today by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, quoted by Reuters.

He stressed that Ankara and Washington should establish a "security zone" in the region as soon as possible.

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sept. 10 that Washington is stalling the implementation of an agreement to create a "safe zone" in northern Syria.

The U.S. military delegation will visit headquarters of the Turkish General Staff over a safe zone in Syria, according to the country's National Defense Ministry on Sept. 10.       

Turkey's foreign minister spoke via telephone with his Russian counterpart on Sept. 9 and discussed recent developments in Syria, according to a diplomatic source.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan continued with his threats to "open the gates" to a new wave of refugees into Europe, warning on Sunday that some 5.5 million migrants would stream across the Turkish border unless Turkey is given international support and a safe zone is set up in northern Syria. 

U.S. and Turkish troops conducted their first ever joint ground patrol on Sept. 8 within the safe zone along the Syrian-Turkish border and northern Syria.

Turkey will go on its own if the establishment of a safe zone in the east of the Euphrates in northern Syria does not start by the end of September, the Turkish president said on Sept. 8.

Turkey and Germany will hold political consultations in Berlin on Sept. 9, Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Sept. 8.

Turkey has been spoiling every trap set on its way in Syria and will resolve the issues in the planned safe zone in the east of River Euphrates in a few weeks, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Sept. 7.

Turkey and the U.S. military personnel completed the first joint ground patrol as planned for the establishment of a safe zone east of Euphrates in Syria, Turkish National Defense Ministry said on Sept. 8.
