Turkic Council

The name of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) has been changed to the Organization of Turkic States, according to a joint declaration of the Council's 8th Summit in Istanbul.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan along with leaders of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) attended on Nov. 2 the official opening ceremony of the council's general secretariat building in Istanbul.

Amid other changes to boost their institution, the grouping of Turkic countries will change its name to the Organization of Turkic States, Turkey's foreign minister said on Nov. 11.

Addressing fellow foreign ministers of the Turkic Council ahead of a leaders' summit on Friday, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu welcomed Turkmenistan, which has attended the council as an observer state.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, known in short as the Turkic Council, is about to undergo a breakthrough in its journey. The Turkic Council Heads of State Summit will take place tomorrow in Istanbul and significant decisions for the future of the Turkic world are expected to be taken.  

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) wants peace on the island to settle disputes with an agreement, the country's president said on Oct. 22 in Istanbul. 

The social media platforms with no inspection executed now threaten the democracy, social peace and national security of states, the Turkish president said on Oct. 22. 

Turkey highly appreciates Togo's support in the fight against the FETÖ, the group behind the 2016 defeated coup in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Oct. 19.

The Turkish foreign minister met on Oct. 11 his counterparts from Azerbaijan, Russia, Nepal, Guatemala, Lebanon, and Iraq during his visit to Serbia.

Turkic Council members are meeting in Istanbul on Sept. 27 to discuss current developments in Afghanistan, where the Taliban have taken power.

Turkey and Uzbekistan will "work together on Afghanistan," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sept. 26. 

In a Twitter post following his meeting with Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov in Istanbul, Çavuşoğlu said: "We will further increase our trade with the Preferential Trade Agreement."

"We will mutually recognize the vaccination certificates," he added.
