Veterans recall Turkey's 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation

On its 47th anniversary, veterans recalled Turkey's Cyprus Peace Operation launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) to bring peace and safety to the island and to the Turkish Cypriots who had suffered from years of persecution.

Talks on Cyprus issue can start with recognition of equal status: Tatar

Official negotiations on the Cyprus issue can start only after the recognition of the sovereign equality of the Turkish side, the Turkish Cypriot president said on June 26.

Ersin Tatar said he reiterated the necessity of acceptance of equal international status during a meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Turkey's president on May 22 spoke virtually at the opening ceremony of an irrigation tunnel to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), commenting on the Cyprus issue.

"If there are to be new talks on Cyprus, these should no longer bebetween the two communities, but between the two states," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said via live video link to the site of the event in the TRNC."
