Some 2,500 languages face extinction: UNESCO official

Nearly 2,500 languages worldwide are at risk of extinction, a Turkish official with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said on Feb. 21.

In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, Öcal Oğuz, chairman of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, said nearly 7,000 languages are spoken worldwide.

Online exhibit celebrates Turkish artists in UK

A virtual art exhibit, to support Turkish artists in the U.K., became available for online visitors on Feb. 17. 

The 3rd Annual Turkish Community Art Exhibition, organized by Yunus Emre Institute and Turkey's Consulate in London, opened online due to coronavirus restrictions taken by the British government to curb the spread of the virus.

Probe launched over MP’s remarks on military

A probe has been launched into Republican People's Party (CHP) lawmaker Ali Mahir Başarır over his remarks regarding the Turkish army, the chief public prosecutor's office in Ankara announced on Nov. 30.

"The army was sold," Başarır said on private broadcaster Habertürk on Nov. 28, criticizing the government over the privatization of a national tank factory.
