More than 8.91 million people visited Turkish museums and archaeological sites in 2020, despite the negative effects of the coronavirus outbreak.

The sites have an important role in the context of protecting cultural heritage, transferring it to future generations and generating a collective memory.

Museums and archaeological ruins, which hosted more than 35 million visitors in 2019, were visited online by 6 million people during a time when museum buildings are closed to visitors as part of measures to mitigate the spread of novel coronavirus, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy has said.

This year's Night of Museums marks a record high participation - with more than 60 partner institutions in Bucharest and events held in 36 counties, event manager Dragos Neamu announced on Wednesday. "What makes me most happy is that at each edition we improved our participation record.

According to TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Award, the Acropolis Museum was voted the 9th best in the world and the 5th best in Europe. Here are the two lists:
