Slain journalist Uğur Mumcu commemorated on 30th death anniversary

Prominent journalist Uğur Mumcu, who died in a bomb attack, was remembered on his 30th death anniversary with various ceremonies held to commemorate him on Jan. 24.

Ceremonies were held on the street where his house was located and at his mausoleum in the Cebeci Asri Cemetery in the capital Ankara, with unanswered questions still lingering over his murder.

Germany honors Turkish scientists developing vaccine

Germany's president conferred Turkish scientists ur Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci with the country's highest award on Friday for inventing the world's first effective vaccine against COVID-19.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier presented the Order of Merit to Şahin and Türeci at a ceremony held at the Bellevue Palace, which was also attended by Chancellor Angela Merkel.

BioNTech founders to receive top German honor

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will honor scientists Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci with the country's Order of Merit for their work, his office announced.

Steinmeier will personally present the Federal Republic's Great Cross with Star to Şahin and Türeci at a ceremony which will be held at the Bellevue Palace next month.

Uğur Mumcu, one of Turkey's most prominent investigative journalists, was commemorated on the 28th anniversary of his killing on Jan. 24.

A commemoration ceremony was held in front of Uğur Mumcu's house to mark the anniversary of his death in a bomb attack, with the participation of only family members and their close circle due to the pandemic.
