A strike in the Indian capital by thousands of Uber and Ola drivers demanding better pay has paralyzed the ride-hailing services that have grabbed business from traditional taxi and rickshaw operators with their cheaper fares.

Dozens of top tech companies — including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter — have filed a joint legal brief arguing against President Donald Trump’s travel ban.
The brief was filed late Sunday with the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in support of an ongoing lawsuit against the ban.

Uber chief executive Travis Kalanick on Feb. 2 quit U.S. President Donald Trump's business advisory group, as a movement grew to dump the ride-sharing service because of his connection to the new administration. 

German auto giant Daimler on Jan. 31 said it had struck a partnership with Uber to supply self-driving cars for the U.S. ride-hailing company.

The tie-up comes as both carmakers and ridesharing firms are jockeying to establish themselves as leading players in the burgeoning world of autonomous driving, seen as the future of the auto industry.

Google has created a crisis fund worth $4 million to support immigrants stranded outside the U.S. borders, following U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order banning refugees and citizens of certain countries from traveling to the country, the USA Today newspaper reported late on Jan. 29, citing a memo sent by Google CEO Sundar Pichai and confirmed by a company spokesperson.

Saudi Arabia's largest telecommunications firm STC plans to buy a 10 percent stake in car booking firm Careem, the company said on Dec. 18.

Careem is a competitor of U.S.-based Uber, a smartphone app that connects passengers and drivers.

Hours after Uber began picking up San Francisco passengers in self-driving cars on Dec. 14, California regulators warned the ride-hailing company to stop immediately and get a special state permit - or face legal action.

A driver for the app-based on-demand car service company Uber was attacked by a passenger and his friends after he asked them to stop smoking while inside the vehicle in Istanbul's Taksim area on Oct. 18, Doğan News Agency has reported.
