Ride-hailing app Uber halts its licensed service in Greece

The ride-hailing app Uber announced Thursday that it would be suspending its licensed services in Greece from next Tuesday, reacting to new laws passed last month that restrict its operations.

The move relates to the service UberX, which uses professional licensed drivers, not to UberTaxi, which uses local taxi drivers and which Uber said it would seek to continue with.

Uber, which operates a licensed service in the Greek capital, has faced opposition from local taxi drivers who accuse it of taking their business.

Arizona governor Doug Ducey suspended Uber's self-driving vehicle testing on Monday following a pedestrian fatality in a Phoenix suburb last week.

Ducey told Uber's chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi that video footage of the crash raised concerns about the company's ability to safely test its technology in Arizona.
