Two people arrested in Mykonos, Paros for illegal loungers, umbrellas

Police on Sunday arrested two people on the islands of Mykonos and Paros for illegally installing loungers and umbrellas on the beach.

Officers handcuffed a 42-year-old man in Mykonos who had placed 77 sets of umbrella seats and five wooden gazebos in front of a well-known hotel on the popular beach of Kalafatis.

Local communities are saying, ‘Enough is enough’

For those of us who spent our summers on Mykonos in the 1980s and 90s, the sight of the Principote club and restaurant on Panormos Beach is nothing short of shocking: a sprawling installation of sofas, cushions emblazoned with gold crowns and, at one point, even carpets on a gorgeous beach where once there was nothing, no loungers nor even umbrellas.

Summer in Greece: No Team Sports on the Beach, Packaged Food from Restaurants

The ban on sounding music and customers staying in bars on the Greek sea remains in force.

This became clear from the new regulation, which determines the rules for the stay of tourists. The restaurants themselves will work and offer drinks, Greek media reported.
