Services sector was largest employer in 2023

Some 18.2 million people worked in the services sector last year, accounting for 57.6 percent of all employment, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) have shown. 

Around 6.6 million of those employed in the services sector were women, according to the numbers of the statistics authority released on March 25.

Unemployment rate at 11.3 percent in April

Turkey's unemployment rate increased slightly by 0.1 percent from March to stand at 11.3 percent in April, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said on June 10.

The number of unemployed rose by 65,000 to 3.85 million people, data from TÜİK showed.

The unemployment rate was 9.7 percent for men and 14.5 percent for women in April.

Eurostat: Euro Area Unemployment at 7.4%

In March 2020, the month when COVID-19 containment measures began to be widely introduced by Member States, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 7.4%, up from 7.3% in February 2020. The EU unemployment rate was 6.6% in March 2020, up from 6.5% in February 2020. These figures are published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

NSI: Record Low Unemployment Rate in Bulgaria

The National Statistical Institute reports record low unemployment in Bulgaria. For the second quarter of the year the coefficient is 4.2 percent and compared to the second quarter of 2018 decreased by 1.3 percentage points. The total number of unemployed for the period is 142.0 thousand, of which 82.7 thousand (58.2 percent) are men and 59.3 thousand (41.8 percent) are women.
