United States recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel

Greece's embassy in Lebanon urged all Greek non-residents to leave the country as violence escalates on the Lebanese-Israeli border following the eruption of the war in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias called for an emergency international Middle East peace initiative while on a visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories today, and he participated immediately thereafter in a teleconference between EU foreign ministers focusing on the raging problem.

He condemned Hamas and supported Israel's right to defend itself.

Tens of thousands of protesters marched in support of Palestinians on May 15 in major European cities including London, Berlin, Madrid and Paris, as the worst violence in years raged in Gaza by Israel. 

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "reactionary racist" at the Democratic presidential debate on Feb. 25.       

The United States has requested a closed-door U.N. Security Council meeting for Feb. 6 at which President Donald Trump's son-in-law and advisor, Jared Kushner, is to present the administration's new Mideast plan which is opposed by the Palestinian leadership, diplomats said.    

Turkey will attend the meeting of Executive Committee Ministerial on Feb. 3, which will be held by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia to discuss Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the country's Foreign Ministry said.

Turkey dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's Middle East plan on Jan. 28 as an attempt to steal Palestinian lands and kill off prospects of establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Jared Kushner will return to the Middle East later this month as he pushes his controversial plan for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, a senior official in President Donald Trump's administration said on July 21.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry expressed concern on late June 13 over Moldova's decision to relocate its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.       

Turkey on June 2 condemned Israel's illegal settlement activities in occupied east Jerusalem.
