Two Des Moines area police officers were shot to death early Nov. 2 in separate ambush-style attacks while they were sitting in their patrol cars, and police are searching for a suspect, authorities said.

A parting gift to Athens from Obama
US President Barack Obama will raise Greece's debt issue when he visits Europe in the context of his farewell tour in mid-November, as Vice President Joe Biden has suggested. Obama's stops will include Athens and Berlin, and there are no more fitting capitals in which to discuss the matter of making Greek debt sustainable. Then again, perhaps it will not go down so well in Berlin.

The U.S. Justice Department officials have cited the proximity of the elections as a reason the FBI should not alert Congress to the unexpected discovery of emails potentially related to its investigation of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's private email server, The Associated Press reported.
