Authorities in the Kosovo capital want them removed, but some in Pristina are reluctant to let go of the satellite dishes that broke a media blackout in the 1990s.

Kosovo's State Agency of Archives opened the exhibition 'Vullkani i Republikes' ('Volcano of the Republic') on Thursday, the 40th anniversary of the start of demonstrations by ethnic Albanian students demanding the upgrade of Kosovo's status from province to republic within the Yugoslav federation.

When the UN-led mission, UNMIK, took over the rebuilding of Kosovo's institutions under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 in June 1999, it identified a key goal in the area of education: to lay the foundations of an inclusive and integrated system. Easier said than done.

This is the assessment of Igor Simic, vice-president of the Serb List, who commented on the intention of the Pristina authorities to integrate the Kosovska Mitrovica-based Pristina University into the Kosovo system, by passing a law on higher education.

The Kosovo government said on Thursday it would neither annul nor renegotiate the agreement on the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

The issue of Kosovo is not resolved, as Pristina believes, Ivica Dacic said on Friday, while "Serbia wants to continue the status-neutral talks in Brussels."

The Kosovo government has put forward a landmark proposal that will make it easier for Kosovo Serbs and members of other minority groups to apply for jobs in public institutions.
