As he said, attacks on Serbs are a safer option for them.

The Albanian, who wounded two Serbs with an automatic weapon in the Kosovo village of Gotovusa, has been arrested, "Kurir" reported. The suspect has the initials A.K and is 33 years old.

Yesterday, an 11-year-old boy and a 21-year-old youth were injured in the village of Gotovusa near the town of Shterpce by a passing car. Both were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

STRPCE- Kosovo Serbs blocked a regional road between Strpce and Urosevac on Friday in protest against a drive-by shooting and wounding of two Serb youths earlier in the day, Tanjug's correspondent on the ground reports.

As stated, all parties are urged to urgently take measures for the unconditional de-escalation of the situation and to refrain from provocations, threats and intimidation.

EU and US envoys Miroslav Lajcak and Gabriel Escobar landed in Pristina on Wednesday in an attempt to bridge differences between Kosovo and Serbia ahead of September 1, when the Kosovo authorities intend to bring in regulations on vehicle licence plates and ID documents for border crossing which Serbs strongly oppose.

Kosovo's Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, announced at a  press conference on Friday with Kosovo Police director Samedin Mehmeti that there have been four attacks on police officers in the last three days near the border with Serbia.

A witness at the trial for the 2018 killing of Kosovo Serb political party leader Oliver Ivanovic, told Pristina Basic Court on Wednesday that he wanted to change the testimony he previously gave to Kosovo's Special Prosecution.

The witness, who the judges asked media not to name for security reasons and to avoid witness-tampering, said he made the decision because he is afraid.

Responding to calls to dismiss a Kosovo Serb government minister, Goran Rakic, head of the Belgrade-backed Srpska Lista party, after his controversial statements, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Thursday said sacking him would not help anything.

"The issue is not Rakic. Dismissal would turn him into an issue," Kurti said on Thursday, ahead of municipal elections due on Sunday.

Police crackdown on smuggled goods has provoked clashes in northern Serbia, which is populated mainly by Serbs.

The police used tear gas against demonstrators who were angry at the action directed to District in Northern Mitrovica and burned police officers in Zverchan.

Kosovo Police clashed with Kosovo Serb protesters in the divided northern town of Mitrovica on Wednesday as they conducted an operation against the smuggling of goods in the town.

Kosovo Serbs threw different explosive devices at the police and put up blockades of trucks on roads close to the technical high school in Serb-run North Mitrovica.
