U.S.–Iraq Status of Forces Agreement

Iraq's caretaker prime minister asked Washington to work out a road map for an American troop withdrawal, but the U.S. State Department on Jan. 10 bluntly rejected the request, saying the two sides should instead talk about how to "recommit" to their partnership.

Some U.S. allies in the fight against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria may be willing to send troops to accompany and support the Syrian opposition force the coalition is planning to train and send back to Syria, Army General Ray Odierno said on March 18.
