Official Start of Longest Railway Tunnel in Bulgaria
Caretaker Minister of Transport Georgi Todorov gave the official start to the modernization of the Elin Pelin-Vakarel railway line which includes the construction of the longest railway tunnel in the country. The entire section is 20 kms. long, the length of the tunnel is 6.8 kms.
National Day of Mourning in Bulgaria
By decision of the Council of Ministers, today is declared a day of national mourning for the victims of the severe crash on Trakia motorway.
The government expresses its condolences to the relatives of the dead. In their memory, the national flags of all state institutions will be halved.

Severe Bus Crash near Vakarel with 6 Victims and about 20 Injured (Updated)
A serious crash occurred in the area of Vakarel on the Trakia highway around 11 am. According to emergency information, there are currently 6 dead and about 20 injured, including a child. The exact number is still not clear because not all the victims are taken out of the vehicle. According to preliminary information, the bus traveling in the direction of Sofia was hit by a car.
Passenger Bus Crash on Trakia Highway
Severe bus crash occurred on the Trakia highway at Vakarel. A bus of Union Ivkoni in the direction of Sofia has turned upside down, NOVA reports. The report of the incident was filed on 112 at 11:27 pm

The EC has Allocated EUR 451mln For the Railway Line From Elin Pelin to Kostenets
The European Commission has approved the financing of the project for the modernization of the Elin Pelin-Kostenets railway line amounting to EUR 451 million. More than 51 km of railway lines and 5 railway stations covered by the route will be modernized with the funds allocated.
Two Men Detained for Transporting Illegal Migrants
Two men have been detained by Chief Directorate National Police during a specialised operation.
The two of them were stopped near Vakarel and 15 foreign citizens illegally residing in Bulgaria were discovered in their vehicles. They claim to be from Afghanistan.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated against the two men and work on the case continues.
