ND leader Meimarakis lashes out at government

New Democracy leader Evangelos Meimarakis accused Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of lying to the Greek people and called on the government to immediately disconnect the banks’ recapitalization from the evaluation.

Mr. Meimarakis noted that the Prime Minister has said that first home foreclosures was “a red line” and now it has become a “decent compromise”

Meimarakis: It is necessary to form a European coastguard

The leader of main opposition New Democracy, Evangelos Meimarakis, commented the decisions of the Summit on refugee issue regarding the 50,000 refugees that Greece would accept.

Through his Twitter account he stressed the need to form a European coastguard because of the nature and extent of the refugee flows.

Greek Parliament votes in favor of draft bill on media

A conflict between the government and opposition broke out in Greek Parliament during the discussion of the mass media bill. State minister Nikos Pappas presented the new regulations, while conservative New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis criticised the government of having a problem with independent authorities.

New Democracy opposes to the draft document on refugee issue

Main opposition New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis opposed to the draft prepared on the refugee issue which criticizes Greece while attending the meeting of the European People’s Party group (EPP) which focus on migration and the formulation of a common asylum policy.

Mr. Meimarakis asked to remove the points where Greece is being criticized.

154 Greek lawmakers vote in favor of omnibus bill

The omnibus bill of austerity measures was voted in shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday despite heated debate. 154 MPs of the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) and its junior partner Independent Greeks (ANEL) voted in favor of the bill, after ANEL MP Nikos Nikolopoulos said he would vote against some sections of the omnibus bill.

Critical hours for New Democracy

Current President of New Democracy  and candidate for the party’s leadership Evangelos Meimarakis met with the three other candidates, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Adonis Georgiadis in an effort to calm down the explosive atmosphere created especially following yesterday’s angry intervention of Evangelos Meimerakis.
