Bulgarian Railway Co Prepares Varna-Bucharest High-Speed Train Project

A project for a high-speed train connecting Bulgaria's Varna to Romania's Bucharest is being prepared at the National Railway Infrastructure Company.

The first stage of the project envisages the reconstruction of the rail line Varna – Ruse, for which a tender procedure is to be called in the second half of the year, according to reports of Trud daily.

Russians Own 500 000 Real Estate Properties in Eastern Bulgaria

Around 500 000 real estate properties in eastern Bulgaria are owned by Russian citizens, said the Russian consul in Varna Yurii Solovyov, quoted by the wire service BTA. 

The consulate in Varna covers the regions Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Burgas, Yambol and Sliven. On its territory permanently reside 6000 Russians and around 300 000 visit Bulgaria regularly.

Cruise Vessels at Bulgaria's Port Varna Almost Double

A total of 49 cruise ships have requested visits to the Marine Station in Varna, according to Bozhidar Chaparov, Executive Director of Port Varna.

Chaparov, as cited by mediapool.bg, pointed out that the average of requested visits of passenger ships in 2013 had been 20-25.

He explained the increase with the good reputation of the port.

Bulgaria to Invest BGN 153 M in 3 Industrial Zones

Investments of BGN 153 M will go to the industrial zones near Bozhurishte, Telish, and Burgas in the next few years, according to the CEO of National Company Industrial Zones EAD.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Atanas Nenov noted that the figure had been calculated on the basis of contracts signed with investors in 2013 and the beginning of 2014.

Turkish Airlines to Fly Istanbul-Varna from End June

Turkish Airlines will have a direct route Istanbul-Varna, starting from June 30, said deputy tourism minister Branimir Botev. 

According to him, the negotiations on the opening of the route were very hard. 

Botev expressed hopes that Varna would become an important access point to the Istanbul airport. 

Sports Goods Chain Decathlon Plans More Stores in Bulgaria

The French sports goods retail chain Decathlon plans to open two more stores in Bulgaria, reports the business daily Capital Daily. 

Currently the company has two stores in Sofia and is planning imminent expansion in Plovdiv and Varna. The plans of a third store in Sofia and a first one in Burgas also remain, but the company hasn't set a time frame yet.
