Group of islanders protest against battery electric vehicles ban

A group of Büyükada residents has been protesting the ban on battery electric vehicles that came into force on Oct. 5 in Istanbul's Princes' Islands.

Gathering in front of the mayor's office, the group shouted slogans asking the mayor to resign and a trustee to be appointed on the islands.

Row sparked over battery electric vehicles on Istanbul islands

Local authorities in Istanbul have imposed a ban on battery electric vehicles on Princes' Islands, a cluster of nine islands in the Marmara Sea, in a bid to curb increasing accidents involving the vehicles and unauthorized parking at pedestrian-only venues.

The ban will come into force starting from Oct. 5 with exceptions for permanent residents who are below the age of 66.

No Internal Combustion Engines in Brussels after 2035

Authorities in Brussels have accepted a gradual repeal of access to the city centre to vehicles with internal combustion engines, local media reported.

It is envisaged that all diesel engines will be banned from 2030 and petrol or gas engines will be banned from 2035. Vehicles with internal combustion engines will be completely banned from 2050.

Istanbul police on alert after car bomb notice

Istanbul police have begun stopping and inspecting a specific type of vehicle on an Istanbul highway after receiving a bomb notice.

Cube trucks of a specific make and model have been inspected at the Çaml?ca toll booths, with special operations police officers taking part in the controlled operation, Cihan News Agency reported Aug. 7.
