The Supreme Court has ruled that the Patriotic Union party of outgoing MP Konstantinos Bogdanos and Prodromos Emfietzoglou cannot contest the upcoming elections due to issues with its name and logo.

It is understood that a party called Patriotic Union-Greek Popular Coalition complained that Bogdanos and Emfietzoglou had appropriated its name.

For Cheese, the ban on "appropriation" of the Classical Hellenic emblem with its distinctive pointy rays was the latest act of surrender in a bitter fight over Macedonian identity.

A ban on the use of the Vergina Sun in all public spaces in North Macedonia came into effect on Monday, as the neighbouring country implements the conditions of the name deal it signed with Greece last year.

A 45-year-old man from Thessaloniki in northern Greece has filed a police complaint claiming he was physically assaulted by a group of people in the downtown Athens suburb of Exarchia because the T-shirt he was wearing depicted the Vergina Sun, a symbol of ancient Macedonia.

Forty years ago today, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the world, and the definitive proof of Macedonia’s Greek origin, was announced by Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos.

According to a report from Anastasia Mertzou on her twitter account, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’s (FYROM) ambassador in Canada, Toni Dimovski, gave a speech on the 4th of February 2017 with a poster of the “Greater Macedonia” and the “Vergina flag” behind him.
