Fire breaks out on Salamina, village partly evacuated

Greek authorities have partly evacuated a village on the island of Salamina on Tuesday, as firefighters are tackling a blaze nearby, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.

The fire started in low vegetation near the village of Kaki Vigla and the municipality, along with the fire service, decided to evacuate some of the residents.

Village evacuated in Corfu after second fire erupts

The fire service, assisted by the police, evacuated on Tuesday a village in northeastern Corfu due to a nearby blaze that erupted out of piles of trash that have accumulated in the area of Kouloura.

The head of the island's fire service, Rizos Andreas, told state-run news agency ANA-MPA the move to empty Vigla was precautionary.

Three men, two women, on the hook for stealing fish

Three men and two women, aged between 24 and 32, have been arrested in Arta, northwestern Greece, for stealing 70 kilos of sea bream from a fish farm in Vigla.

The five suspects allegedly drove from Messsolonghi, where they live, and loaded up the fish onto a trailer.

The 65-year-old fish farm owner alerted police, who arrested the suspects in Arta.
