Editorial: School violence

Experts say that every society has the level of violence that it merits - neither more nor less.

From that perspective something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

One cannot otherwise explain the almost daily incidents of extreme violence that occur in schools and elsewhere nor the indifference with which they are often met.

Officers trained for new domestic violence units

The Hellenic Police (ELAS) is preparing to train additional staff for its 73 regional domestic violence response units, which were created in November last year.

The move is part of a government plan to tackle domestic violence in the country and educate officers on how to handle such cases. Complaints about domestic violence are often underestimated by the authorities.

Turkish police arrest 10 ISIL terror suspects

Turkey arrested 10 suspects linked to the ISIL terror group in Ankara, security sources said on Jan. 29.

Anti-terror police carried out raids at the addresses of suspects, said sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The suspects were in contact with people in conflict zones and were plotting terrorist attacks, according to the police.

Weinstein accuser's ex-roommate backs up sexual assault allegation

The former roommate of Mimi Haleyi, one of the women who has accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, took the stand on Jan. 28 in the former Hollywood mogul's rape trial.

Elizabeth Entin told jurors that Haleyi, visibly upset, told her in the summer of 2006 that Weinstein forced oral sex on her.

Thessaloniki students hold protest in support of teen who bullied teacher

Students at a vocational training school in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, were staging a sit-in on Tuesday to protest the possibility of criminal charges being brought against a fellow pupil in the wake of the release of a video showing him verbally assaulting a teacher.

Tension at Moria camp following second death

Tensions were high at the overcrowded Moria camp on Lesvos on Friday following the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old Yemeni migrant at the facility on Thursday night - its second death this year.

Police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old foreign national in connection with the stabbing, which occurred following an altercation between the two men.
