Police said on Thursday that a man who informed the authorities that his child had been sexually abused on the island of Nisyros will not be deported, after it was revealed that he had been banned from entering into the country.

Instead, the man, whose nationality has not been revealed, was given 25 days "to further arrange his outstanding matters," police said in a press release.

A 36-year-old woman in the town of Aigio, western Greece, tried to commit suicide by taking an unknown number of pills after she was attacked by her husband. 

The 39-year-old husband was arrested and is facing charges of domestic violence. 

Police was alerted to the suicide attempt by the local hospital where she was transferred for treatment. 

Scratches, slaps and bruises on arms and legs do not legally fall into the category of domestic abuse unless they are the result of ongoing behavior, according to the police's current manual on domestic violence.

There is only one truth - and it's harsh: Greek society (and much more so the police) does not care about us. That's why hundreds of police officers can be found at the drop of a hat to beat up protesters and soccer fans and, of course, to guard the mighty. But when a woman feels that her life is in danger and asks for their help, they simply brush her off.

Greece's minister in charge of police announced plans Monday to set up a nationwide network of domestic violence shelters, days after the fatal stabbing of a woman outside a police station.

Police are investigating allegations of sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old pupil, with three individuals currently detained in connection with the case. 

The incident reportedly occurred during a school excursion to the northwestern city of Ioannina, where the victim, from Greece's central Pilio region, claims to have been sexually abused while asleep by fellow pupils. 

Police must put themselves in the victim's shoes when dealing with incidents of domestic violence, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis has said, as police adopted four additional measures for the management of domestic violence cases.
