Crete court confirms Norwegian’s conviction for murder of wife

An appeals court in Crete has confirmed the conviction of a Norwegian man for the murder of his wife in January 2021.

The man, now aged 50, will continue to serve his life sentence for the murder, which the court unanimously ruled was premeditated and committed in a clear state of mind.

Vendetta feared in Xanthi after murder, burning of houses

Greek authorities on Tuesday feared that the murder of a man in a village of Xanthi, northern Greece, could spark a vendetta between two families, after two houses belonging to the alleged perpetrator and his brother were set on fire on Monday night.

The fire service said the fires in the two houses were caused by arson but no suspects have been detained.

The municipal councilor in Velingrad, Ekaterina Kaferinova, was killed last night in her home. The police are expected to give official information about her murder.

The report was made shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. The suspect is a man who himself reported the murder to 112. At the moment, there is no evidence that the victim received threats.
