Global Blindness Set to 'Triple by 2050'

The number of blind people across the world is set to triple within the next four decades, researchers suggest, reported BBC.

Writing in Lancet Global Health, they predict cases will rise from 36 million to 115 million by 2050, if treatment is not improved by better funding.

A growing ageing population is behind the rising numbers.

Blind art: Toronto filmmaker replaces his eye with a camera

Rob Spence, a Toronto-based filmmaker, has replaced an eyeball with a camera-eye. The eyeball he has replaced was a fake one he had since he had a freak shooting accident at the age of nine. Considering his fake eye useless as it did not allow him to see, the one-eyed filmmaker put a camera of his own invention in the socket.
