As Sofia marks 145 years since its declaration as the capital of Bulgaria, the capital municipality is abuzz with celebrations commemorating this historic milestone.

Today, the iconic "Shipka" pass finds itself enveloped in a blanket of snow, with temperatures plummeting to minus 3 degrees Celsius.

During the last 24 hours, mountain rescue teams carried out two operations. In the first instance, assistance was rendered to two 16-year-old boys in Vitosha who were ill-prepared for the mountain's conditions and season. Venturing towards Mount Aleko, they strayed off the trail, reaching a point where they couldn't proceed and contacted emergency services at 112.

A protest by families who have lost their children in accidents is taking place in Sofia today. At 8:30, they closed the intersection of "Alabin" Street and "Vitosha" Boulevard, right next to the Courthouse. The participants have requests for fairness and increased road regulation.

In a show of support for the Palestinian people and a plea for peace, Sofia witnessed a march that initially intended to commence from the National Palace of Culture. However, due to heightened police presence, participants gathered at the start of the pedestrian section of Vitosha Boulevard.

103 snow removal machines are currently active within the Sofia Municipality.

Roads in the Vitosha Nature Park are presently inaccessible for cleaning purposes.

Only vehicles equipped with chains will be permitted to travel during daylight hours.

Sanctions in the amount of over BGN 120,000 have been imposed on the snow removal companies in Sofia, Nikolay Nedelkov, director of the Sofia Inspectorate, announced to BNR.

The Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) issued a cautionary notice regarding the heightened risk of avalanches in specific areas of Vitosha Mountain, particularly above the Aleko hut and the ski slope known as Stenata (The Wall).
