Macedonia Leaders' 4-Hour Talks End with No Results

A third meeting of Macedonian political leaders has failed to produce any tangible results, local media outlets say.

Heads of four parties held another round of talks in the country's capital Skopje amid a political crisis, with socialist opposition leader Zoran Zaev demanding the government's resignation in a wiretapping scandal.

Beating of Critical Macedonian Journalist Condemned

There was widespread condemnation of Friday's attack on Ivanovski, a well-known and vociferous critic of the Macedonian government who runs the Maktel website and goes by the nickname 'Politiko'.

Ivanovski told BIRN that two unknown black-clad men wearing masks hit him on the head with metal bars in front of his building, but he managed to escape before suffering further injury.

Skopje provocations in ruling party rally

Flags bearing the 16-beam Vergina Sun and maps of the so-called “Great Macedonia” were held by governing party VMRO-DPMNE supports in Skopje, during an anti-rally held and attended by PM Nikola Gruevski. The Skopje hands of the attending crowd pointed to the Skopjan “dream”. Three fingers for Vardaris, the Aegean Sea, and Pirin, and the “O” from the word “Obedineta” which means United.
