A Hawaii volcano that has been oozing lava and burping steam for days may be gearing up for a huge eruption, scientists have warned, prompting the closure of Volcanoes National Park on May 11.

The Kilauea volcano erupted again on May 8, spewing toxic gases out of two new vents and prompting authorities to call for an immediate evacuation of residents from a second neighborhood on the Big Island.

The lava flows, melted rock mass and poisonous gases from the Kilauea volcano destroyed dozens of houses in the largest Hawaiian island.

A new fissure from which lava comes appeared on Sunday night.

The volcano sheds lava and throws poisonous gases at a height of over 61 meters.

Hawaii's Big Island was on high alert on May 6 after the Kilauea volcano spewed lava into residential areas, forcing hundreds to evacuate, and a series of earthquakes, including a powerful tremor, shook the island.

PAHOA, Hawaii (Reuters) - GA series of fresh earthquakes on Friday, including a powerful magnitude 6.9, hit Hawaii's Big Island, where the Kilauea volcano has been spewing fountains of lava into residential areas and forcing hundreds to evacuate.

Nearly 1,500 residents were ordered to evacuate from their volcano-side homes after Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano erupted, sending molten lava to chew its way through forest land and bubble up on paved streets.

About 10,000 Hawaiian residents were evacuated because of the Kilauea volcano eruption, the World Agencies have reported.

The eruption of lava and ashes from the volcano was preceded by an earthquake of magnitude 5 in the area. 

Yo Yama volcano erupted in Japan and forced authorities to ban access to the top, but there are no reports of casualties or destruction, Reuters reported.

The volcano thrust into the sky clouds of smoke and stones. It is 1298 meters high and is located on the island of Kyushu.

(Xinhua) - Mount Shinmoe on the southwestern Japanese main island of Kyushu erupted violently on Tuesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.

According to the JMA, the powerful eruption at Mt. Shinmoe, which straddles Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures, occurred at around 2:30 p.m. local time (0530 GMT) Tuesday.

Geologists from the University of Kobe discovered supervolcano with 34-cubic meter of magma on the shores of Japan, which in the event of an eruption could kill more than 100 million people. The study is published in the journal Science.
