Croatia enters battle for Volkswagen's new factory, local newspaper reports. The investment is expected to exceed one billion euros.

German automotive giant Volkswagen is not actively looking for new locations as an alternative for the production plant in Turkey, a company spokeswoman said on Oct. 22.

Romania is on the short list of countries where Volkswagen may open a new factory for the next generations of Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb, and discussions in this regard have already been initiated by the Bucharest government, Ziarul Financiar, a financial daily, reported today.

Bulgaria is ready to double the subsidies it offers in order to secure the contract for the new Volkswagen plant, the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes in an exclusive material. "We have found a way to offer the Volkswagen Group 250 to 260 million euros instead of 135 million euros," former head of state Rosen Plevneliev told F.A.Z.

Germany's Lower Saxony Prime Minister Stephan Weil is currently ruling out the possibility of a new Volkswagen plant in Turkey due to the Turkish invasion of Syria, German magazine Spiegel reported in an electronic publication.

Weil serves on the Volkswagen Supervisory Board as a representative of Lower Saxony, which holds over 20% of the concern.

The Volkswagen car group has postponed its final decision to build a car plant in Turkey amid international criticism of the country's military operation in northern Syria and concerns about potential reputational fallout, Handelsblatt reported on late on Monday.

Aeronautical vehicle manufacturer Boeing and sports car company Porsche are working in partnership to create an autonomous flying vehicle suitable for urban transportation. Its innovative concept was officially unveiled on Thursday.

Bulgaria has not dropped out of the race to attract investment from Volkswagen.
