Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be visiting the Greek capital's fire-struck municipality of Penteli on Tuesday, where he is expected to chair a meeting with local and other officials and unveil the government's plan for managing and restoring those areas east and north of Athens that were devastated by an out-of-control blaze last week.

Today’s meeting in Penteli, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, will resemble a mini-Cabinet session. It will take place this afternoon and will include several ministers, deputy ministers, general secretaries, the Governor of Attica, and mayors from the affected areas.

Inspectors have condemned 40 homes for demolition and declared another 64 temporarily unfit for use, following last week's fires in northeastern Attica which burned about 10,000 hectares of land.

The inspections were carried out in the municipalities of Dionysos, Halandri, Marathon, Pallini, Penteli, Rafina-Pikermi, and Oropos and Vrilissia.

Greek emergency services fought back Tuesday against a massive wildfire that scorched the Athens suburbs, killing a woman, causing widespread damage and sending thousands of people fleeing from their homes.

Teams of the General Directorate for the Rehabilitation of the Effects of Natural Disasters of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Policy began the process of recording damage on Tuesday in the aftermath of the devastating fire that ripped through northern Athens on Sunday and Monday.

The Interior Ministry has allocated emergency funding to eight municipalities in Attica affected by recent wildfires.

The total amount of 4.7 million euros was agreed upon after discussions between the interior and finance ministries, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece, and the mayors of northeastern Attica.
