European bank invests in Turkish waste-to-energy firm Biotrend

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invested in a minority stake in Turkish waste-to-energy firm Biotrend.

Through the investment the bank aims to promote private-sector participation in municipal waste management, according to a statement on Aug. 23.

Arcadia Waste Treatment Plant is part of the PPP project of Integrated Waste Management of the Peloponnese Region, which was visited today by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

This is the largest Waste Management PPP constructed in Greece (contract enters into force -29 January 2021). It has been preceded by the PPPs of Western Macedonia, Epirus, Serres, and Ilia.

Istanbul joins European bank's Green Cities program

Istanbul, Turkey's largest city by population, has joined the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Green Cities urban sustainability program.

The European bank will provide financial support to the construction of a new 14 km metro line connecting the east and west of the city, according to a statement from the bank on May 3.
