‘We need Turkey to buy the Patriot’ missile defense system, acting Pentagon chief says

Acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said on Tuesday that he wanted NATO ally Turkey to remain in the F-35 fighter jet program, but added that Ankara needed to buy the Patriot missile defense system.

At a House of Representatives Armed Services Committee hearing, Shanahan was asked whether the United States wanted Turkey in the F-35 program.

Romania will create maintenance centres for the Patriot surface-to-air missile systems, National Defence Minister Gabriel Les announced on Thursday. According to him, the creation of the maintenance centres is part of the contract Romania concluded with the US partners, which also provides industrial cooperation regarding the missile system.

Commenting on the claim on Wednesday by SYRIZA MP Giorgos Kyritsis that nobody had died in Greece from petrol bombs, the general secretary of the Special Guards unit, Efstratios Mavroidakos, said on Thursday that more than 170 police officers had suffered burns from Molotov cocktails within a year.
