3,700 km of roads in Serbia damaged in floods

BELGRADE -- The catastrophic floods in Serbia damaged around 3,700 km of roads, mostly in the western and central regions of the country.

This data was revealed on Friday by the state secretary at the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Miodrag Poledica.

The recent floods have seriously damaged several Bosnian judicial institutions, destroying files, evidence and archives.

Ministry of Finance reveals latest donations figures

BELGRADE -- A Serbian government account set up to collect donations for the flood affected areas has, as of 18:00 CET on Thursday, received a total of RSD 967.64 million.

This amounts to about EUR 8.35 million.

Nikola Nikodijevic, head of the Belgrade assembly, said the situation in the capital was stable and under control.

"A surge on the Danube river in Belgrade is expected in the next 48 hours, but that should not break the levees placed along the banks in Zemun," he said, referring to the northern Belgrade municipality.

Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said that the floods have caused damage worth 0.64% of GDP.

Speaking Thursday in Belgrade at a meeting of international donors, he argued that the sector of energy and agriculture had been hardest hit, adding that the damage estimate could even reach EUR 1 B.

A clean-up of the flood-stricken town of Obrenovac started on Thursday, although local residents have been told not to return to their homes just yet.

The police on Wednesday night called on owners and renters in certain streets in Obrenovac to report the extent of the flood damage and clean up their stores.

Flooded areas slowly normalize, 4 more days on standby

BELGRADE -- The night has passed peacefully in the flooded areas of Serbia, while the overall situation is stable without any critical locations identified.

Authorities and citizens will be on standby for four more days due to an announced surge wave on the Danube.

Threat of malaria and rat-bite fever

The first cases of diarrhea and temperature caused by poor hygiene due to lack of water have been registered in the flooded areas.
