Athens apartment prices up 2 pct in Q1

The Athens housing market remains under the strong influence of short-term rentals, as 70 percent of buying interest in small residential units concerns properties destined to be upgraded and leased through websites such as Airbnb and HomeAway. As a result property prices posted mild growth in the first quarter of 2019, according to an analysis by Geoaxis chartered surveyors.

Tax authority pilot crackdown traces dozens of offenders

In a pilot crackdown last year, the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) traced hundreds of foreign nationals who purchased properties in Greece without declaring them, thus avoiding the ENFIA property tax, and dozens of taxpayers who had concealed their incomes from rental properties. 

Why Does Europe Hate Tech Giants?

Statistics show that 19 out of 20 Europeans use Google when they search for something on the web. EU Commissioner for Competition Margareta Vestager, however, is not among them. She uses the competing search engine Qwant, which claims that does not collect personal data from users for a commercial purpose.

The EU Fined Google with 1.49 Billion Euros

Google has been fined $ 1.49 billion by the EU to block advertisers from its competitors in its search engine, the BBC said.

This is the third EU fine for the giant in the last two years.

The case was opened in 2016 and accuses Google that it has forbidden third parties to use the AdSence app to display advertisements by Google's rivals.
