Four local cases of West Nile virus infection in humans have been registered between June 7 - September 2, and one of the infected persons has died, the National Center for the Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases of the National Public Health Institute informs. The West Nile fatality is a 63-year-old man from Dolj County.

Two new cases of West Nile fever in Bulgaria. The infection was confirmed after research by the Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
The patients are a 2-year-old child from Burgas and a 64-year-old man from Montana. They have inflammation of the brain.

There Is no West Nile Fever in Bulgaria
Currently there is no West Nile fever in Bulgaria. This was reported by BNT, quoted by Dr. Magdalena Baymakova of the Military Medical Academy.
According to the European Center for Infectious Disease Control, there are currently 33 people infected with the West Nile fever. They are in Greece, France, Hungary and Italy.
