Kranjska Gora ski resort hosting 57th Golden Fox meet
Kranjska Gora – The Slovenian ski resort of Kranjska Gora will host over the weekend two Alpine Ski World Cup giant slalom events for women in what will be the 57th Golden Fox meet. The event usually takes place in Maribor but has been moved the second year running due to a lack of snow amid mild and wet weather.
Snowboarder Mastnak third in parallel giant slalom
St. Moritz – Slovenian Tim Mastnak took third place in parallel giant slalom in FIS Snowboarding World Cup in Scuol, Switzerland, on Saturday. Russian Igor Sluev won the competition, while Pole Michal Nowaczyk was second.
This was Mastnak’s fifth World Cup podium and the second podium for the Slovenian team in this season.

Mild weather dashes hopes for Maribor World Cup meet
Maribor – Maribor will not host the women’s alpine skiing World Cup circuit for the Golden Fox Cup for the second year running due to a lack of snow amid mild and wet weather. The two-day event will move west to Kranjska Gora again.

Ljubljana – Slovenian freestyle skier Filip Flisar, the 2015 world champion in ski cross, has announced that he is ending his professional career, with the decision coming after he failed to appear at the start of the new World Cup season due to health issues.

Biathlon Worlds at Pokljuka gets mascot in Jurček the Gnome
Pokljuka – The 2021 Biathlon World Championships, scheduled to take place in Pokljuka on 9-21 February next year, will have a new and special mascot in Jurček the Gnome, who is joining the chamois as the informal mascot of all biathlon competitions on the Alpine plateau in north-western Slovenia.
Slovenia’s Lampič third in World Cup sprint race
Dresden- Fresh from being declared Slovenian female athlete of the year, cross-country runner Anamarija Lampič finished third in Saturday’s World Cup sprint in Dresden, Germany.
The top three finish came even though Lampič lost a pole soon after the start and was forced to run with one pole for a part of the race.

Snowboarder Košir wins bronze in Carezza
Cortina d’Ampezzo – Snowboarder Žan Košir won bronze in the parallel giant slalom in a World Cup race in Italy’s Carezza on Thursday to return to the podium after almost a year. Austria celebrated a double victory with Benjamin Karl in first and Andreas Prommegger in second place.

Martin Čater sensational winner of World Cup downhill opener
Val d’Isere – Martin Čater won the World Cup season opening downhill in France’s Val d’Iser on Sunday in what is the first podium finish for the 27-year-old, who entered the race with the start number 41.
In a sensational feat, Čater headed down the piste two hours into the race but his perfect line in excellent conditions allowed him to take the lead of the pack.
