Work accident

Concerns have been expressed at the safety of working conditions in Greece, as 12 workers were killed in work-related accidents in the last 23 days.

In a statement, the Greek Federation of Technical Enterprises Workers' Associations said that 60 workers have now been killed and 60 workers injured in workplace-related incidents this year.

About 45 percent of motorcycle couriers in Turkey started to work during the pandemic, and this trend led to growing problems and risks of occupational safety and health on the part of delivery employees over an increasing volume of orders and customer expectations of fast delivery, with sizeable numbers of them working in precarious conditions.

Many children in Turkey continue to become victims of unregistered employment and workplace accidents, multiple reports show.

The number of deaths caused by workplace accidents in China fell 12.1 percent to 38,000 in 2017 compared to the previous year, state media reported yesterday, citing figures from the country’s safety watchdog.

A total of 2,006 workers were killed in workplace accidents in 2017, a report by the Workers’ Health and Work Safety Assembly (İSİGM) said on Jan. 6.

Some 13 workers were trapped in a copper mine in Turkey's southeastern province of Siirt on late Nov. 17 after it was hit by a landslide that killed at least three people, a statement by the local governor's office said. 

Some 1,025 people were killed in workplace accidents in Turkey in just the first 10 months of 2015, according to data from the Social Security Institution (SGK). 

In 2014, in which 301 people were killed in the huge mine disaster in Soma, 1,497 people were killed at work, according to the data. In 2013, 1,315 people died in occupational incidents. 

The Republican People's Party (CHP) submitted a motion to the parliament on Aug. 10 for a detailed report on the institutional, administrative, legal and economic factors of work accidents in order to establish a holistic approach to prevent such incidents.

The number of workplace accidents skyrocketed in 2013 by 291 percent from the previous year to 191,389, according to the Mechanical Engineers Unit of Turkey's Chamber of Architects and Engineers' (TMMOB) latest work safety report, which is issued every two years. 

In 2014 a total of 118 workplace deaths were registered and 2807 people were injured in occupational accidents in Bulgaria, according to data provided by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB).
