Turkey wants to see a progressing Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) that is self-sufficient and confident, Turkey's vice president said on Sept. 20. 

World Bank leaders, including then-Chief Executive Kristalina Georgieva, applied "undue pressure" on staff to boost China's ranking in the bank's "Doing Business 2018" report, according to an independent investigation released Thursday.

The World Bank said on July 15 that it extended financing worth $1.5 billion for five critical development projects during Fiscal Year 2021. 

Recalling that the country fought the impacts of COVID-19, the bank said the financial support contributed to the implementation of Turkey's 11th National Development Plan as laid out in the Bank's Country Partnership Framework.

Turkey sent 50,000 additional doses of a coronavirus vaccine to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on June 21. 

A Health Ministry plane carrying the doses landed at Ercan International Airport in Lefkosa, where officials from the TRNC's Health Ministry received the shipment.

With the latest delivery, Turkey has provided the TRNC with 290,000 vaccine doses to date.

Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) signed two cooperation protocols on April 29 to meet the energy needs of the TRNC.

The government approved today the amendment regarding the three-month extension until March 31, 2021 of the deadline for the withdrawal of the proceeds of a 250 million euro IBRD loan granted for the reform of the Romanian healthcare system.

The World Bank on Dec. 21 announced that under a new project it will provide a finance of $300 million to help avert the closure of viable micro- and small-enterprises (MSEs) in Turkey amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Development and Investment Bank of Turkey announced June 2 it signed a deal with the World Bank to enhance conditions for formal job creation in Turkey.

The coronavirus pandemic could push as many as 60 million people into extreme poverty, the World Bank said on Tuesday.

The poor countries "will take the hardest hit, especially ones that were already heavily indebted before the crisis," said David Malpass, World Bank chief.
