World Refugee Day

UNHCR Türkiye marked the World Refugee Day with a photography exhibition, "Life Through My Eyes," originating from a series of photography workshops where Turkish and refugee children living in the southeastern province of Mardin came together to reflect on the environment they live in through their own lenses.

Foreign artists living in Turkey came together in Istanbul to hold a concert to mark World Refugee Day on June 20.

The concert organized by the International Refugee Rights Association was at the Cemil Candaş Şişli Municipality City Cultural Center.

Murat Polat, the concert's music and art director, said the show was broadcast live on the Refugee TV YouTube channel.

As the world marks International Refugee Day with a record number of displaced people hit by ongoing conflicts and coronavirus pandemic on top of it, the U.N. Refugee Agency's representative for Turkey called on the international community to ramp up support given for countries hosting a large number of refugees and asylum seekers.

Noting that Turkey hosts the most refugees of any country in the world, a U.N. representative said on June 16 that it should receive more support from other states in this regard. 

Refugees, NGO workers and local residents gathered at Ada Ciganlija Lake in Belgrade on Thursday to celebrate World Refugee Day at an event organized by Info Park, a Belgrade-based NGO.

June 20 marks the World Refugee Day. Events are being held across the world to raise awareness of those millions who continue escaping war-torn regions in search of shelter.

By a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, the World Refugee Day was first observed in 2001. The day marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
