China developed its own model in the fight against COVID-19 after its appearance in the city of Wuhan in December. Some western countries like the U.S. have been criticized for being too harsh, but China has succeeded in reducing the number of cases with this model.

Residents of the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the new coronavirus was discovered in December, have the right to return to work, and public transport will be resumed after the whole city was quarantined for two months, the BTA quoted France Press as saying.

The peak of the coronavirus epidemic in China has generally been overcome, said a spokesman for the State Commission on Health.

"Currently, with the exception of Wuhan, no new infections have been reported in all Hubei cities in a week," he said.

Some vital industries in Wuhan, the Chinese city at the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic, were told they can resume work on March 11, a day after President Xi Jinping visited there for the first time since the outbreak began.

Mainland China reported a rise in new confirmed cases of coronavirus on March 5, reversing three straight days of declines, because of a spike in new infections in Wuhan, the city at the centre of the outbreak.   

New virus cases in China have again declined, up just 394, after authorities on Feb. 20 again changed how they count new daily infections. They are now discounting cases that had come back negative after laboratory tests.

The death toll from the new coronavirus in mainland China passed 2,000 on Feb. 19 although the number of new cases fell for a second straight day, as authorities tightened already severe containment measures in the worst-hit city of Wuhan.

The death toll outside China is five, with an estimated 73,000 people were infected worldwide, according to CNN.
Chinese neurosurgeon Liu Zhiming is the first director of the hospital to die from the disease.

Chinese authorities on Feb. 17 reported a slight upturn in new virus cases and 105 more deaths, as the military dispatched hundreds more medical workers and extra supplies to the city hit hardest by the 2-month-old outbreak.

More than 2,600 new cases were confirmed from a coronavirus outbreak in mainland China, health officials said on Feb. 15, a day after people returning to the capital from holidays were ordered to quarantine themselves for 14 days.
