A presenter for the Islamic conservative Akit TV has resigned from his post and is facing criminal charges after speaking about “killing civilians” in secular neighborhoods of Istanbul.

It is obviously very meaningful that those who until yesterday had been talking about the grievances of "our headscarved sisters" are now treating those who have gathered in front of daily Zaman as mere "step-sisters."

But we should not exaggerate this meaningful situation...

Istanbul's anti-terror police have detained 11 suspects in connection with the Feb. 11 attacks on the offices of dailies Yeni ?afak and Yeni Akit. Reports indicate that the suspects are linked to an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) called the United Freedom Forces (BÖG). 

Four of the assailants who launched petrol bomb and gun attacks on the offices of two Turkish newspapers have been identified, a police source said on Feb. 12.        

Do?an Publishing Group representative Mehmet Ali Yalç?nda? and the deputy chair of the Do?an Media Group's Publishing Principles Committee, Volkan Vural, have paid a visit to the office building of daily Yeni Akit, which was targeted in an armed attack early Feb. 11, to express their sorrow and show solidarity against terror.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) head Kemal K?l?çdaro?lu has condemned the violent attacks by masked mobs on the offices of daily Yeni Akit and daily Yeni ?afak early on Feb. 11.
