Youth unemployment

Turkey's quarterly jobless average increased to 10.7 percent in July from the previous 10.2 percent, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) showed on Oct. 17. 

Unemployment in the 28 member-states of the EU stabilised for the fourth consecutive month at a 7-year low of 8.6%, while unemployment in Bulgaria hit its lowest level since October 2009, reaching 7.7%, showed Eurostat data.

Turkey's unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent in June with a 0.6 percentage point year-on-year increase, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) has showed. In the same period, the non-agricultural unemployment rate was 12.2 percent with a 0.5 percentage point increase.

Unemployment continued to decline in August, announced the National Employment Agency.

At the end of August, there were 261,525 unemployed registered in labour bureaus. Compared to July, there was a decrease of 6,575 persons. On an annual basis, compared to August 2015, the number of unemployed was significantly lower - a decrease of 45,296.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov had a meeting with the Special Envoy of the General Secretary of the UN on youth employment Werner Faymann. Ensuring a higher quality of life for young people in Bulgaria, as well as overcoming youth unemployment and guaranteeing quality education are among the main priorities of the Bulgarian government, emphasised Borissov.

The unemployment rate in Turkey rose 0.4 percentage points in 2015 to sit at 10.3 percent, hitting double digits for the first time since 2010, the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜ?K) said in a statement on March 23.

The number of unemployed persons rose to 3.057 million in 2015, an increase of 204,000 from the previous year, the statement said.     

The employment rate for the age group 20 - 64 years in Bulgaria was 67.1% last year, increasing by 2 percentage points compared with 2014, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced on Tuesday.

Turkey's unemployment rate rose to a 10-month high of 10.8 percent in December 2015 from 10.5 percent in the previous month, data from the Turkish Statistics Agency (TÜ?K) showed on March 15. The rate was 10.9 percent in December 2014, according to official data. 

Turkey's labor market needs reforms to become more flexible and bring the unemployment rate below 10 percent, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet ?im?ek said on Feb. 15.

Speaking after the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜ?K) released the unemployment rate for the October-December 2015 period, ?im?ek said he did not see a "bad trend" in unemployment.

"Countries with a developed dual education system do not have a problem with youth unemployment, and Serbia has recognized this," says Christoph Leitl.

The president of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber is on a two-day visit to Belgrade as of Monday.
