Cologne produced on campus makes 3 mln liras in revenue

A cologne that was produced by the northern province of Samsun's Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) last year has generated a turnover of 3 million Turkish Liras ($155,000).

Founded by the Science Faculty's Department of Chemistry in 2020, Kampüs Kimya (Campus Chem in English) increased its turnover from 1.5 million liras in 2021 to 3 million liras in 2022.

26th Boston Turkish Festival kicks off

The 26th Boston Turkish Festival kicked off on Oct. 29 with the raising of the Turkish flag in Boston's Hall Square in the US state of Massachusetts.

Ceylan Özen Erişen, Turkey's Consul General in Boston, Erkut Gömülü, founding director of the festival and president of the Turkish American Cultural Society of New England, along with residents, attended the opening ceremony.

Turkish poet’s historic house used as parking lot

Famous Turkish poet and author Cenap Şahabettin's house in Istanbul's Bakırköy district, where he passed away in 1934, is being used as a parking lot.

The residence of Şahabettin, one of the first pioneers who brought the psychology of the self into poetry, was almost destroyed over the years due to neglect. Now, it is about to collapse.

Turkish Cargo wins top honor in global awards

Turkish Cargo was named the Best Overall Carrier of the Year at the Payload Asia Awards 2020, the company announced on Feb. 6.

Turkish Cargo, a subsidiary of flag carrier Turkish Airlines, beat out competitors from around the world to win the award based on service quality, efficiency, speed, and reliability, as well as the company's innovation and vision, a statement said.

Turkey takes underwater hockey crown for 2nd time

Turkish U23 men's team emerged victorious on July 21, 4th World Age Group Underwater Hockey Championships held in Hobart, Australia. 

Turkey beat France by a score of 3-1 in the championship final. The under-23-years-of-age team finished the group stage in first place, beat Argentina in the quarter-finals 12-0, and beat Colombia 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Spanish BBVA now leading shareholder in Turkey's Garanti Bank

Spanish lender BBVA has become the leading shareholder in Garanti, Turkey?s largest bank in terms of market capitalization, the companies said on July 27 in a joint press conference. 

After completing the transaction announced last November to acquire an additional 14.89 percent holding, the BBVA Group now owns to 39.9 percent of Garanti.
