Country promotes first female general
Özlem Yılmaz, a soldier serving in the Turkish army for nearly three decades, has been promoted to be a brigadier general, becoming the first female general in Türkiye.
"The Republic of Türkiye has given the rank of general to a female soldier for the first time since women started serving in the Turkish army as commissioned officers in 1955," local media has reported.

Turkish couple sets sail for world tour with catamaran
A Turkish couple has started a five-year-long world tour with their catamaran on April 10, with local officials bidding farewell to them in a small ceremony in the southern province of Antalya.
Özlem and Özkan Şahin got married in the province's Finike district in 2014 and have been living in their catamaran since then.

Two Turkish-German scientists were awarded Greece's Empress Theophano Prize on Oct. 13 for saving millions of lives with the development of the first vaccine against the coronavirus, according to the Empress Theophano Foundation.
Türeci, Şahin recipient of top science award
Özlem Türeci and Uğur Şahin, the co-founders of BioNTech, and Katalin Kario, who also works at the Germany-based, biotechnology firm has been announced as the recipients of Germany's most prestigious medicine prize for their mRNA vaccine work.
They will receive the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize 2022 on March 14.
