Turkish scientists start 8th Antarctic expedition
A group of Turkish scientists has embarked on the eighth Antarctic expedition from Istanbul.
The team, consisting of a 20-member scientific delegation and three high school students, will first set off for Sao Paulo, Brazil, and reach Antarctica's King George Island after a long journey.

Former Hürriyet Daily News staff attacked in US
Emine Yılmaz Özsoy, A Turkish artist living in the U.S., became a victim of a brutal attack on May 21 as she was shoved by an assailant into a moving subway train in Manhattan, with authorities reporting that she was left "instantly paralyzed."
The 35-year-old woman, also a former Hürriyet Daily News employee, was on the subway platform to board the same train with the attacker.

Committee approves to become party to Spitsbergen Agreement
The Turkish parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee has accepted the law proposal regarding Türkiye's accession to the Spitsbergen Agreement, which will enable Turkish citizens to acquire property, residence and fishing rights in the Svalbard (Spitsbergen) archipelago and territorial waters.
The proposal will be discussed in the parliament's general assembly in the coming days.
Turkish team on way to Antarctica for new expedition
A Turkish team has departed for Antarctica to conduct scientific research as part of the country's sixth expedition in Earth's southernmost continent.
Hasan Mandal, the head of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), expedition coordinator Burcu Özsoy and researchers from MAM Pole Research Institute bid farewell to the expedition team from Istanbul Airport.

Burcu Özsoy, a member of Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Maritime Studies and chairperson of the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center's Institute of Arctic Research, has been conducting studies on sea ice on the white continent.

A Turkish team plans to expand the number of its researchers for its Antarctica mission during its next visit to the remote continent in December this year, according to the leader of a team of Turkish scientists.
Man wounded during coup attempt succumbs to injuries
A man who was wounded during the July 15 failed coup attempt succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 12, bringing the total death toll of the thwarted coup to 246.
Özcan Özsoy, 27, died in the hospital in which he was receiving treatment, Anadolu Agency reported.
