Goran Paskaljevic film retrospective in Spain

BELGRADE - Spanish Cinematheque in Madrid and the Barcelona-based Film Theater of Catalonia have staged a retrospective dedicated to the prominent Serbian film director Goran Paskaljevic, whose latest film "When Day Breaks" is currently shown in cinemas across Spain.

The selection includes seven works of cinematic art by the renowned filmmaker - "Someone Else's America", "Cabaret Balkan", "How Harry Became a Tree", "Midwinter Night's Dream", "The Optimists", "Honeymoons".

Both retrospective events opened with the premiere of "When Day Breaks", attended by the director.

In Madrid, the opus of Goran Paskaljevic was presented by film historian and theorist Fernando Lara, longtime director of the International Film Festival in Valladolid, Spain. Paskaljevic has won the Valladolid festival's main award 'The Golden Spike' on three separate occasions, matching the feat of the legendary Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman.

During the opening ceremony at the Spanish Cinematheque, also attended by representatives of the Serbian Embassy in Spain and members of the Serbian-Hispanic cultural association 'Ivo Andric', Paskaljevic was presented with the Grand Prix for Best Film, won at the last year's International Film Festival in the Spanish city of Merida.

After Madrid, Paskaljevic proceeded to Barcelona, where he attended an equally successful opening of his retrospective titled “Goran Paskaljevic, a great director - a modest man”, with director of the Film Theater of Catalonia Esteban Riambau delivering the introductory speech.
