PM Ponta: Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, the ruling coalition's main prime ministerial pick

The main option of the ruling coalition for the office of prime minister after November 18 is Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, incumbent Prime Minister Victor Ponta told a meeting of the ruling coalition at Parliament Palace in Bucharest, adding that First Vice Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Florin Georgescu and head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior are other possible options.

'I have suggested national leader of the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) Calin Popescu Tariceanu to take over the office of the prime minister and I believe him to be the best solution, because Tariceanu is the founder, along with his colleagues, of the Social Liberal Union (USL) and a guarantor that the principles underpinning the USL — ousting the Basescu regime, securing social balance and economic development—will be continued into 2015-2016. Tariceanu is my main option,' Ponta said after the first part of the meeting of the ruling coalition.
